Surface Protection for Veterinary and Pet Care FAQ
Here are answers to common questions about TiCoat® and surface protection for veterinary and pet care facilities. If we don’t answer all your questions here, please visit our main FAQ page or contact us.
How Does TiCoat® Work?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is a ceramic photocatalyst protective coating that actively cleans and deodorizes using light, oxygen, and water in the air to break down contaminants and odors that touch its surfaces.
Once applied to a surface, it converts light energy from any source – including sunlight, fluorescent light, and LED light – to create a reaction with contaminants and odors.
Wipe treated surfaces with a water-based cleaner and let TiCoat® Surface Protect reduce organic stains and eliminate odors.
Where can TiCoat® be used in veterinary and pet care settings?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is great for small, midsize, and large-scale applications in the veterinary and pet care facilities. This includes interior and exterior surfaces in veterinary clinics, veterinary hospitals, boarding facilities, kennels, and other animal care facilities.
TiCoat® works on porous and non-porous surfaces including metals, plastics, glass, wood, painted and stained surfaces, cement, stucco, fabrics, and more. This high-quality, nontoxic surface treatment can be used in exam rooms, operating rooms, wash areas, restrooms, and waiting rooms, as well as on fixtures and décor.
What are the benefits of TiCoat® in veterinary and pet care facilities?
There are many benefits of using TiCoat® in a veterinary practice or other pet care facility. For example, even highly durable industrial flooring options can be vulnerable to contaminants and odors.
Over time, contaminants including animal waste can collect on a porous surface like a concrete floor or grout between tiles. Additionally, abrasions from everyday wear and tear can give contaminants a foothold in other veterinary flooring solutions. TiCoat® Surface Protect will make it more difficult for contaminants to stick.
TiCoat® is a high-quality, low-maintenance floor coating system that reduces the need for harsh cleaners, is stain resistant and slip resistant, and will help prevent contaminants and odors from building up on flooring and other surfaces.
After applying TiCoat® to bathrooms, kennels, and other areas with significant odor, you can see immediate and sustained odor control, which can help improve the experience for pet owners as well as veterinarians and other animal care professionals.
TiCoat® also shows results in faster drying floors. Liquid spills and messes are frequent occurrences in pet care and veterinary facilities, increasing the importance of creating slip-resistant floors.
How long does the protection last?
TiCoat® is a long-lasting coating which does not require constant reapplication. It’s water-resistant and can only be removed abrasively or chemically, and will remain active as long as it’s exposed to light, water, and oxygen. If a treated surface, such as a floor, wall, or sink, is painted over or covered, the protective benefits will no longer remain active.
Why TiCoat®?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is an innovative, safe, and sustainable solution with a one-step application process manufactured to last on surfaces. It offers superior surface protection, helping keep high-traffic areas in veterinary and pet care environments cleaner and smelling better.
Previous technology worked only with UV light, but TiCoat® works with any light source. It’s a long-lasting, fast-acting, self-cleaning surface coating that’s free of harmful chemicals. It dries clear on any surface, including fabric and solid surfaces, making it easier to maintain surface cleanliness and actively remove toxic residues left behind by normal cleaning procedures.
This contributes to greater sustainability and lower cleaning product costs, and reducing cleaning time, costs, and labor by up to 20% or more.
Is TiCoat® safe?
Third party safety testing by Enviro-Chem Labs in California found TiCoat® 100% safe. It’s at seven on the pH scale – the same pH as water. It has no VOCs or SVOCs, contains no harmful metals, and is not harmful to aquatic life.
It's a water-based, more sustainable, more efficient solution. TiCoat® is food contact safe, meaning it will not transfer from surface to food. It’s slip resistant, has been rigorously tested and approved by Green Seal, and is a PFAS-free technology. TiCoat® is also certified Clean Air Gold and made in the USA.
Many commonly used cleaners are toxic and require rinsing with water after application. According to the EPA, indoor concentrations of some pollutants have increased in recent decades – cleaning supplies, paints, insecticides, and other commonly used products introduce many different chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), directly into the indoor air.
Indoor air pollutants can contribute to various health effects, including:
- Eyes, nose, and throat irritation
- Headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
- Respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer
TiCoat® reduces toxicity by breaking down harmful residues left behind by disinfectants and other harsh chemicals. This further contributes to improved safety for pets, owners, and caregivers in veterinary and pet care facilities.
How do I get TiCoat®?
TiCoat® is available in the USA and by shipment internationally. Veterinary and pet care providers can access TiCoat® Surface Protect directly through TiCoat® approved sales associates and certified installers. Please contact us for more information.
TiCoat® Certified Installers are available regionally and will treat surfaces in minutes using a standard air compressor and spray gun. If your organization has staff or a preferred service provider, TiCoat® can readily arrange for certification training. The process consists of both classroom and hands-on training, which typically takes just one day.
How much TiCoat® do I need?
The amount of TiCoat® Surface Protect needed depends on the square footage of the area to be treated and the type of surface material. On a non-porous surface, such as painted surfaces, one gallon of TiCoat® is estimated to cover approximately 4,500 square feet of surface area. On a porous surface, such as raw concrete or brick, a gallon is estimated to cover approximately 2,500 square feet of surface area.
