Surface Protection for Industrial Facilities and Solar Energy FAQ
Here are answers to frequently asked questions about TiCoat® and surface protection for industrial facilities and solar energy installations. If we don’t answer all your questions here, please visit our main FAQ page or contact us.
How Does TiCoat® Work?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is a ceramic photocatalyst protective coating that actively cleans and deodorizes using light, oxygen, and water in the air to break down contaminants and odors that touch its surfaces.
Once applied to a surface, it converts light energy from any source – including sunlight, fluorescent light, and LED light – to create a reaction with contaminants and odors.
Wipe treated surfaces with a water-based cleaner and let TiCoat® Surface Protect reduce organic stains and eliminate odors.
Where can TiCoat® be used in industrial facilities and solar energy installations?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is great for small, midsize, and large-scale applications in manufacturing facilities, solar power plants, and other industrial spaces, as well as use on solar photovoltaic panels in any commercial, public, or private setting. For example, residential, government, or commercial buildings.
It works on porous and non-porous surfaces including metals, plastics, glass, wood, painted and stained surfaces, cement, stucco, fabrics, and more. This high-quality, nontoxic surface treatment can be used for superior protection on walkways, conveyor belts, laboratories, cleanrooms, restrooms, break rooms, offices, garages, solar panels, as well as fixtures, and décor.
What are the benefits of TiCoat® in industrial facilities and solar energy installations?
TiCoat® offers a wide range of advantages for industrial facilities and solar energy installations. This high-performance ceramic coating system is designed to be low-maintenance, stain-resistant, and slip-resistant, while actively preventing the buildup of contaminants and odors on floors and other surfaces, including solar panels.
A clear coat of TiCoat® reduces the adherence of dirt and grease. Contaminants can be easily washed away with water-based cleaners, reducing the need for harsh chemicals like acids or solvents.
When applied to high-odor areas such as bathrooms and garages, TiCoat® delivers immediate and long-lasting odor control, improving the experience for both employees and visitors.
Industrial Facilities
In industrial spaces where spills and messes are common, TiCoat® ensures faster-drying, slip-resistant floors, promoting workplace safety. It can also help reduce maintenance costs by extending equipment lifespan and improving operational efficiency through superior dust and grime control.
For example, in manufacturing environments, TiCoat® helps prevent the buildup of grease, oils, debris, and food residues on machinery, assembly lines, and other surfaces. It also limits particle accumulation on walls, floors, and equipment, creating a cleaner and more efficient working environment.
Solar Energy Installations
As a solar glass treatment, TiCoat® provides pollution resistance, water spot mitigation, bird dropping protection, and soil adhesion prevention—critical factors in optimizing photovoltaic panel performance and maintaining electronic sensor accuracy. Its ability to keep solar panels cleaner for longer can lead to improved energy efficiency and reduced cleaning requirements.
TiCoat® is versatile across surfaces, keeping high-touch areas like equipment, counters, and walls cleaner for extended periods. It minimizes VOCs and odors, simplifies cleaning, and reduces the reliance on chemical cleaners.
How long does the protection last?
TiCoat® is a long-lasting coating which does not require constant reapplication, even in saltwater and other harsh environmental conditions. It’s water-resistant and can only be removed abrasively or chemically, and will remain active as long as it’s exposed to light, water, and oxygen. If a treated surface, such as a floor or wall, is painted over or covered, the protective benefits will no longer remain active.
Why TiCoat®?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is an innovative, safe, and sustainable solution with a one-step application process manufactured to last on surfaces. It offers superior surface protection, helping keep high-traffic areas cleaner and smelling better.
Previous technology worked only with UV light, but TiCoat® works with any light source. It’s a long-lasting, fast-acting, self-cleaning surface coating that’s free of harmful chemicals. It dries clear on any surface, including fabric and solid surfaces, making it easier to maintain surface cleanliness and actively remove toxic residues left behind by normal cleaning procedures.
This contributes to greater sustainability and lower cleaning product costs, and reducing cleaning time, costs, and labor by up to 20% or more.
Is TiCoat® safe?
Third party safety testing by Enviro-Chem Labs in California found TiCoat® 100% safe. It’s at seven on the pH scale – the same pH as water. It has no VOCs or SVOCs, contains no harmful metals, and is not harmful to aquatic life.
It's a water-based, more sustainable, more efficient solution. TiCoat® is food contact safe, meaning it will not transfer from surface to food. It’s slip resistant, has been rigorously tested and approved by Green Seal, and is a PFAS-free technology. TiCoat® is also certified Clean Air Gold and made in the USA.
Many commonly used cleaners are toxic and require rinsing with water after application. According to the EPA, indoor concentrations of some pollutants have increased in recent decades – cleaning supplies, paints, insecticides, and other commonly used products introduce many different chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), directly into the indoor air.
Indoor air pollutants can contribute to various health effects, including:
- Eyes, nose, and throat irritation
- Headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
- Respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer
TiCoat® reduces toxicity by breaking down harmful residues left behind by disinfectants and other harsh chemicals. This contributes to further enhancement of safety for technicians, engineers, custodial staff, and other workers in industrial and solar energy settings.
