Surface Protection Coating FAQs
Here are answers to frequently asked questions about TiCoat® surface protection coating. If we don’t answer all your questions here, please visit our main FAQ page or contact us.
How Does TiCoat® Work?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is a ceramic photocatalyst protective coating that actively cleans and deodorizes using light, oxygen, and water in the air to break down contaminants and odors that touch its surfaces.
Once applied to a surface, it converts light energy from any source—including sunlight, fluorescent light, and LED light—to create a reaction with contaminants and odors.
Wipe treated surfaces with a water-based cleaner and let TiCoat® Surface Protect reduce organic stains and eliminate odors.
Where can TiCoat® be used as a surface protection coating?
TiCoat® Surface Protect is great for small, midsize, and large-scale applications in various settings. This includes superior surface protection for hospitality facilities, offices, schools, and universities, veterinary and pet care facilities, aviation, automotive, and boating, state agencies and municipal buildings, industrial facilities and solar energy installations, residential settings, and more.
This high-quality, nontoxic surface protection coating can be used on porous and non-porous surfaces including metals, plastics, glass, wood, painted and stained surfaces, cement, stucco, fabrics, and more.
Why choose TiCoat®?
With just one application of TiCoat® Surface Protect, this nontoxic, long-lasting solution will keep your spaces cleaner, fresher, and more cost-efficient to maintain.
TiCoat® reduces the need for frequent cleaning and lowers your reliance on costly supplies. This innovative coating reduces cleaning time, costs, and labor by up to 20% or more—giving you more resources to allocate elsewhere.
While older technologies require UV light, TiCoat® activates with any light source, continuously cleaning and deodorizing surfaces. Its advanced photocatalytic action removes harmful residues without using harsh chemicals, supports sustainability efforts, and contributes to improved indoor air quality.
Whether applied to solid surfaces or fabrics, TiCoat® dries clear. Additionally, the solution’s non-stick properties make it easier to remove graffiti and vandalism, keeping your walls and other surfaces looking their best while saving time and money on maintenance and restoration efforts.
What are the benefits of TiCoat® surface protection coating?
This high-performance ceramic coating system is designed to be low-maintenance, stain-resistant, and slip-resistant, while actively preventing the buildup of contaminants and odors on walls, floors, and other surfaces.
A clear coat of TiCoat® reduces the adherence of contaminants and stains. Contaminants can be easily washed away with water-based cleaners, reducing the need for harsh chemicals like acids or solvents.
When applied to high-odor areas such as bathrooms, locker rooms, and garages, TiCoat® delivers immediate and long-lasting odor control, improving the experience for both employees and visitors.
Will TiCoat® help remove graffiti?
Yes, particularly graffiti from acid pens. Testing confirms that TiCoat® acts as a self-sacrificing surface protectant where the coating is impacted by the acid, leaving the surface below undamaged. Affected areas can be readily cleaned and touched up with TiCoat® for ongoing protection.
How long does the protection last?
This surface protection coating creates a clear coating which does not require constant reapplication, even in saltwater and other harsh environmental conditions. TiCoat® is water-resistant and can only be removed abrasively or chemically. It will remain active as long as it’s exposed to light, water, and oxygen. However, if a treated surface, such as a floor or wall, is painted over or covered, the protective benefits will no longer remain active.
Is TiCoat® safe?
Third party safety testing by Enviro-Chem Labs in California found TiCoat® 100% safe. It’s at seven on the pH scale – the same pH as water. This surface protection coating has no VOCs or SVOCs, contains no harmful metals, and is not harmful to aquatic life.
TiCoat® is a water-based, more sustainable, more efficient solution. It’s slip resistant and food contact safe, meaning it will not transfer from surface to food. TiCoat® has been rigorously tested and approved by Green Seal, and is a PFAS-free technology. It is also certified Clean Air Gold and made in the USA.
Many commonly used cleaners are toxic and require rinsing with water after application. According to the EPA, indoor concentrations of some pollutants have increased in recent decades – cleaning supplies, paints, insecticides, and other commonly used products introduce many different chemicals, including VOCs, directly into the indoor air.
Indoor air pollutants can contribute to various health effects, including:
- Eyes, nose, and throat irritation
- Headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
- Respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer
TiCoat® reduces toxicity by breaking down harmful residues left behind by disinfectants and other harsh chemicals. This contributes to further enhancement of safety for employees, visitors, security and custodial staff, and anyone else on the premises.
How much does TiCoat® cost?
Pricing is based on the specific application. TiCoat® is a highly cost-effective surface protection coating, significantly reducing the use of expensive and toxic cleaners while providing exceptional surface protection. Contact us for a personalized quote.
How much TiCoat® do I need?
The amount of TiCoat® needed depends on the square footage of the area to be treated and the type of surface material. On a non-porous surface, such as painted surfaces, one gallon of TiCoat® is estimated to cover approximately 4,500 square feet of surface area. On a porous surface, such as raw concrete or brick, a gallon is estimated to cover approximately 2,500 square feet of surface area.
Do surfaces need to be cleaned first?
Yes. The surface protection coating is designed to bind to the surface to protect from future contaminants. Cleaning is recommended for pre-application surface preparation to ensure a stronger bond and longer-lasting protection. The surface will have the same appearance before and after application.
What are the care instructions after installation?
Clean treated surfaces with your preferred “green” cleaner, water, and a soft microfiber cloth, sponge, or paper towel. Abrasive pads or tools are not advised. Use of strong chlorides, acids, or bleaches are unnecessary.
Are there quality assurance or satisfaction guarantees?
TiCoat® surface protection coating has a two-year shelf-life warranty. To help ensure the product is effective, we limit application of TiCoat® to certified installers. These trained installers are available regionally for fast and easy application.
Why hasn’t this product been used before in the USA?
TiCoat® has reengineered and reimagined this photocatalytic technology from Japan. The process and light-activated formulation are proprietary, and the market is now driving practical uses of the technology behind this nontoxic surface protection coating.
